The Summer/Fall line up has launched and is ready to ship out. Take advantage of the Buy One (new release) Get One Free (classic release) while supplies last. We have a limited quantity of classic shirts, so do move quickly before its too late.

We are really excited by this line. It is by far the most abstract and fun of any of the releases we have had in the past. This release is largely inspired by our team riders and original visions for the brand when it first started out. "The Old Neighborhood," for example, is a different take on the "City Scape Classic" design from our first ever launch. "The Varsity" hoodie set was inspired by our team riders who work hard both in their crafts but also in promoting the brand. The hoodie obviously resembles the Varsity Letter jackets from high school, suggesting those who wear them belong to the same team.

The First+Lexington team has been hard at work over the last 12 months. We have experienced many changes and experimented with different paths for the brand. We hope you like the final result for this release and we look forward to bringing you more quality limited edition apparel in the coming months. Stay Tuned.

And As Always...

...Welcome To The Neighborhood.

A/G

Rise and Shine: FREE SHIRT OFFER

Morning Campers.

Great news. We have a new system of rolling out new designs. Ultra Limited Editions coming in from guest designers and artists from all over the globe. We have started by changing little details all over the place.

The first change you may have noticed is the roll out of our UK website, www.FirstandLexington.co.uk, specifically for our friends across the pond. You will notice that there are some items on the UK site that aren't on the US site, that is because they are exclusive and only available in the UK. As it has been in the past for the English on the US site, US customers can shop on and have delivered UK items.

The Second change is happening as we speak. From now on you will want to check back the First Monday of Every Month for Movin' In Monday, or "New Release Events." Every first Monday of the month New Designs move in and Retired Designs move out, its as simple as that. Additionally, one of the new designs released on Movin' in Monday will be released at a lower price for one week only! There you go, we are giving you something new every month and one new item will be cheaper for one week to save you some cash.

The new system is designed to make sure that you have a fresh steaming pile of F+L on your plate every month. Move fast, cos the shirt you covet could be gone next month!

Finally, You can expect new things like Holiday themed shirts, goodies in your shipments, and two major releases of new gear every year (maybe more if we keep the design hamsters hard at work). You want to travel the best ski resorts in the world without having to pay for hotels. If you’re lucky, you’ve got friends – or at least friends of friends – living in the sickest spots, and these guys have said you should come and stay. Grab that opportunity with both hands! Thing is, there’s a code of conduct to successful couch surfing that not only shows respect for the people who have been good enough to put you up, but should also help you get invited back another time.

1. Be polite – whoever has invited you to stay is welcoming you into their home – a few manners cost nothing.

2. Bring supplies from home – If you stay domestic, this isn't too much an issue, but if you go abroad...American foodstuffs are either unavailable or super expensive in resort, and we’ve seen people reduced to tears of joy when being presented with a bag of cheetos mid-season after theirs ran out in December. Favorites include: cheetos, Lucky Charms, Arnold Palmer Half/Half, Double Stuff Oreos, and the all-important SKIPPY PB. Ask before you fly.

3. Offer to help. If there’s washing up that needs doing, do it. Trash needs taking out? It’s all you, my friend. Be a good houseguest.

4. Contribute – there’s nothing more annoying than somebody who just takes, so first thing’s first: make sure that you buy a bunch of groceries when you arrive. Basics are best – milk, butter, cereals, toilet rolls, that kind of thing. Beers are the international currency, so spend up.

5. Be cool – in a season environment, people live closely with each other for months on end and a new person in the group can upset the balance. The more invisible you are, the less hassle you’ll cause. Don’t sit around the house all day smoking out. Go shredding, ya bum!

6. Keep it on the down low. If you have been invited to stay, that means just YOU. Don’t show up with a couple of dirtbag friends – unless your hosts have EXPRESSLY said that it is cool. Assumption makes an ASS out of U and ME.

7. Stay tidy – when you get up in the morning, tidy all your shit away, keep your kit in order and as out of sight as possible.

8. Keep it pleasant – don’t just raise a leg when you’re watching TV and let one rip – it’s disgusting you moron. If you have a stinky ass, learn the benefits of air freshener – or at failing that two lit matches (to dissipate the smell when you take a toilet break).

9. Say thanks. Take your hosts out when it’s time to leave – you don’t have to go super flashy, but dropping $50 on a meal is way cheaper than a week in a hotel room, and is a welcome goodbye present.

10. Return the favor. If you finally kick down for you own spot in the mountains, make sure that your ex-hosts know all about it and that they are welcome to come and crash. If you live in a city near an airport, invite them to come and sample the delights of your manor the next time they are passing through.

Happy surfing!
A/G

Naked Snowboarding

Hey guys/gals check out this ...interesting... article that comes to us from our friends over at
http://www.abc-of-snowboarding.com and bundle up ;) Enjoy!

Naked Snowboarding is normally riding the board and enjoying the feel of the wind while gliding on snow but only with a little twist - you ride wearing practically nothing. Enthusiasts’ admiration of the perfect pallid magnificence of the mountains made them endure the latent drawbacks of getting sunburn and frostbite all over their bodies, including that of their intimate parts.

This type of Snowboarding had been a center of controversies in several events - the problem frequently arising after the nude or nearly nude snowboarders got out of hand and became excessively frenzy. In fact, local police never failed to be present whenever a Naked Snowboarding event was publicized to be held in most countries, considering public nakedness as a ‘grey area’ of law. In the Crested Butte case in Colorado, for instance, the annual last-day-of-the-season nude Ski and Snowboarding extravaganza turned into a big havoc when participants and outsiders ended up hurling bottles. Hence, Naked Snowboarding events are now planned more strategically and orderly, with corresponding rules to be followed by everyone.

In 2004, Austria held its first organized nude downhill Ski and Snowboarding race at Fugenburg, where about 100 snowboarders participated. In the said event, participants from six states competed amidst the –4°C temperature, but they were not able to pass the cancellation threats of the authorities, hence, the riders resorted to wearing G-string, the very least.

Traditionally, Naked Snowboarding had been conducted only in Germany but over the past years, Naked Snowboarding festivals are a hit around the world. Bikini Slalom, Undie 500" class="related_products_container", and the Ski-a-thong are some of the most popular events which are regularly held all over the world. Many riders were saddened when the organizers of the Telluride event, another renowned Naked Snowboarding event, decided not to hold affairs in the past seasons.

Colorado’s Copper Mountain, on the other hand, has no plans to conclude its 20-year legacy of staging the Eenie Weenie Bikini competition where riders ski or snowboard naked while completing routines at the tune of their preferred melody. Winners in the Eenie Weenie Bikini event were judged based on the claps and boos from the crowd. The unsurpassed and undressed man and woman get a season pass for the following year’s event for free. At present, even the rigid British authority made way for the growing clamor of Naked Snowboarding events, of course, all in the concern of charity fund raising. Ski and Snowboarding galas are held at Milton Keynes and Castleford Xscapes where participants undress at –7°C. More so, ‘Naked on the Piste—Dare to Bare All,’ a special Valentine’s Day Naked Snowboarding event, was held annually.

I wanted to introduce you to a friend of mine...

Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving and hasn't given into playing Christmas music yet until December 1st. Seriously people let's not get ahead of ourselves!

This week I wanted to introduce you to a talented friend of ours named Ashley Burruss.

Hailing from sunny San Diego, CA, Ashley is an amazing artist who was kind enough to create for our sponsored skater, Ryan Rosinski, a hand-painted, limited edition First And Lexington skate deck! Here are some pics of the deck if you haven't seen them already.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7unovPyWhTg/SxPw1XK7P1I/AAAAAAAAAAM/DpGwHVi2eLg/s200/First%2BLexington+-+Rosinski+Custom+F%2BL+Deck+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409932376945672018" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7unovPyWhTg/SxPxJMCyF0I/AAAAAAAAAAU/WGLa-EBWTWI/s320/First%2BLexington+-+Rosinski+Custom+F%2BL+Deck+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409932717556111170" />

We had the good luck of catching up with Ashley to talk about art, limited edition skate decks, desert islands and crayons, and sun safety. Yeah, exactly. Buckle up.

How did your journey to becoming an artist begin?
In 2005, I was on track to graduate from college early and my parents suggested I go abroad. After taking 6 years of French, my family was shocked that I decided to go to Italy. Having left the states with a killer case of strep throat- I never really got better during my 6 month stint abroad. One of the classes signed up for was a painting class, which I quickly got bumped to the Advanced Class with my own key to the art studio in the heart of the historic district of Florence, Italy. Being that I was sick as a dog and not able to travel on weekend, I pretty much spent all my free time in that studio.

What’s the message you want your art to convey?
It’s more about how you feel when you look at them.. I want you to look at the piece and love it, or remind you of a place you visited, a person you knew.

Have you ever exhibited your artwork? If so, what was it like the first time you exhibited your art?
My first show was when I was in Florence, Italy 2005 and I showcased two pieces. For the past two years I have participated in the Keep Arts Alive Program, painting banners to be displayed along the HWY 101 from Cardiff to Leucadia, CA and then auction off to keep art program within my community. Outside than that, I have only done one other show. I would love to do more but I spend most of my time doing custom pieces for specific clients

How do you think your art has evolved since then?
I have gone from a VERY realistic approach to loosening up my style to include more a more POP-Art influence.

Today there seems to be tons of aspiring artists out there today. Being an experienced artist what advice do you have for these aspiring artists?
Be true to yourself. You will find people that love your style – you don’t need to adapt to someone else’s style to be successful.

Blogs and the internet are changing the art scene. Allowing many people to exhibit their work without having a show in a gallery. What are your thoughts on this?
I think this is a great opportunity for emerging artists. Sometimes, getting your art into a show or a competition can be costly; so using your own blog or website it a great cost effective way to get your name out there. The hardest part is getting followers! 

Who are some of your favorite artists?
Andy Warhol
Taylor Reeve
Wade Konakoswsi

What are some things that inspire your art besides other artists?
Surfing, Architecture, the ocean, the beach “lifestyle,” POP art, Iconic Celebrities, Sex

You often paint on skate decks, what was it that possessed you to do such a crazy thing ;)?
Lately I have been! It’s a much smaller canvas and it allows you to go crazy with color and design. I got the idea from an old client that made bamboo skate decks and asked if I could play around on a few. Once the word got out I was painting skate decks, the orders came pouring in. I think people find them more accessible than commissioning a large canvas painting.

Earlier this year you did a limited edition, one of one skate deck for First and Lexington, was this the first time a company had commissioned you to do this and why, apart from getting paid, did you decide to take the job?
First Company to ask but not first commissioned skate deck. I understood what F&L was trying to accomplish with the piece and I got to get to know the team rider. The rider had some key pieces he wanted to have incorporated, but otherwise it was total freedom to do what I wanted. For me that is the best client – a little bit of direction and then you are own your own.

Have you painted on other sports goods? If not, would you consider it and what would you like to paint?
I have done a surfboard or two but I would love to branch out.

When you are not making art you are?
If you asked me a year ago, surfing. I am recovering from 2 hip surgeries this year so surfing is out. I am getting into stand up paddling, I sew all the time, blog, work on my non-profit – Terry’s Trees – a program to teach children in the sun-belt region sun safety.

What’s the plan for the rest of 2009?
I just wrapped up two commissioned pieces and have 1 or 2 more in the pipe.

If it was a rainy Tuesday in San Diego in the month of March and you could only take one thing with you, what color crayon would you be?
Crayons don’t have hands so I couldn’t take anything with me ;)

<img style="cursor:pointer; Flirt
Why not use this time to be a little frisky and get your flirt on – with the adrenalin pumping and fresh mountain air it could lead straight to some glorious razzle. Just don’t do what a friend of mine once did and get tugged off by your lady whilst sharing the lift with a random German.

9. One run you might be learning how to say ‘good morning’ in Dutch, the next you’re practising your best Franglais to chat up the hottie fate has placed beside you for a whole ten minutes. Who knows, you could make even meet some new riding buddies and make lifelong friends…

Day After Thanksgiving Sale

Hey guys Hope all is well, your sweats are on and your bellies are full of turkey or very soon to be. The days are getting shorter. The mercury in thermometers around the country continue to plummet. Time to brush off the dust and cobwebs from your kit and get ready to hit the mountain, get your legs back, and prepare for a winter full of risk and reward. But its the former that has me thinking these days.

It doesn't matter how good you are at snowboarding - whether you're a grom or about to drop into an Olympic pipe - there seem to be two major problems with pushing your self past the threshold of what you think is possible: the fear of getting hurt and the fear of doing so in front of others. Pain and Stage Fright. A horrible, damning, disgraceful combination which somehow invokes an image of being invited by Jessica Biel for a lap dance, only to receive a Sid-Vicious style kick in the balls in front of packed crowd at the Garden watching the Cavs and the celtics showdown.Yet, if it weren't for pain and fear, our experiences would be dulled enormously, and we'd probably be so agoraphobic that we'd all be living in caves, listening to Steve Wright, and reaching for the last bit 3-day-old pizza in a paranoid fog.

Think I'm full of it? Well...read on...

To understand why we push ourselves in the first place, it's worth breaking the two factors - pain and humiliation - into more managable chunks. The pain part of the equation is easy to deconstruct. When faced with a gap jump, rail or steeper-then-we're used-to slope, there's a little voice in the back of our heads that rears its ugly face to let us know in no-uncertain terms that what we are about to attempt is about to attempt could result in egg-on-face or worse, a trip to the emergency room. Naturally, the voice points out a few worst case scenarios. "what if you catch your edge on the run up," it says, "and front flip straight over the take-off, landing eye-ball first on the sharp bit of metal that is undoubtedly an inch beneath the snow?" The voice undoubtedly takes the form of a figure of authority such as a parent or teacher (Mine is Mr. T), and runs down a clip-board's worth of equally dire and potentially fatal consequences. "You're going to overshoot the landing," it says, "And land ass-first on a Victorian, iron fence.

The voice has good reason to dissuade you from engaging in in horrendously dangerous activities. After all, the voice in your head is you - only it's the absolute wussy version of you. The part of you that would much prefer to stay indoors, plug the PS3 in and spend the afternoon boosting your online ranking before smashing on a mid-morning string-cheese. If you listened to this part of your-self, you'd inevitably end up so socially withdrawn that within a year you'd be living on your own in a safe, mid-American village like Burton, Ohio, having the Cleveland Plain Dealer delivered by a paperboy you suspect of being a gang member.

The trouble is, of course, that the voice is often right, and - when someone dares you to do a cartwheel on the wall of the Tignes Dam for example - it's worth listening to its advice. So how do you know when to ignore it? I mean, if you look at things rationally, we shouldn't be risking life and limb for anything. And given the choice between a terribly painful death or, say, a gentle footscrub, what sane person wouldn't be whipping off the socks and presenting our tootsies for their wriggley bubbly bathtime?

The real question, then, isn't why we're so reluctant to get smashed to pieces, but why we go there in the first place. What - in the name of God - is driving us towards potential death in the form of an acrobatic feat over an industrial-grade stair aid?

It is a remarkably foolish enteprise, so what makes us do it?

Well, I think it comes down to the simple glue that binds all of history's great people - CURIOSITY. Einstien himself said, "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing." Such is the situation when facing a physical challenge. It's the curiosity of finding out whether we can do it or not that is driving us forward and gagging the wuss voice in our heads. "I wonder if I can make that gap?" we wonder. "You know what? I think I can - and I'm willing to literally place my legs as a bet to prove I'm right."

Yup - you read that right. We're betting our own legs against ourselves in a game of physical roulette that involves us jumping a dangerous and tetanus-laden wire fence using only gravity, the gliding properties of crystallized water and a wooden plank.

Crazy stuff, but we all do it.

The stage fright part of this whole madness is equally ridiculous when you think about it. would we even contemplate jumping that same fence if there was no-one looking. In some cases the answer is "yes." These people are to be avoided - they are true lunatics, and their wuss voice is likely to be metaphorically locked in a trunk somewhere with a plastic orange strapped to his mouth. For the rest of us, the answer is "no." We like people to see us. we're nothing but shallow show offs engaging in a sort of peacock-display of f*ckwittery that has the potential to reap some pitying applause. We crave the praise of our friends, relatives and peers like a puppy that's just learned to crap in a litter tray and is proudly standing next to a pile of his best work with a cute grin on his face. "Oh look," you'll hope they say while flipping through photos from your last big trip, "you jumped off an enormous cliff. You must be insane." Pathetic, aren't we?

Well...kind of. On the other hand, we have been blessed with a nature that is restlessly inquisetive. and it feels fantastic to indulge it once in a while. For those of you who are still with me, we've got some literary heavyweights backing us up. "Once conform," wrote Virginia wolf, "once do what other people do because they do it, and a lethargy steals over all the finer nerves and faculties of the soul." She wasn't alone. samuel Johnson, the liteary giant of the 1700's, was equally convinced that testing your limits was a worthy cause. "Curiosity," he wrote, "is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous mind." Yet perhaps the man with the finest grasp of why it's best to trust your finer judgements and launch into the abyss of the unkown was the early 19th century orator Edwin Chapin. "Whatever touches the nerves of motive," he said, "whatever shifts man's moral position, is mightier than steam, or calorie, or lightening.

As a catchphrase to shout before dropping off a cliff, it'll get you props...but it's a mouthfull.

And the reward of doing so? Ah! Well this is where we can understandably give in to a little bit of smuggery. Because if we weigh up all the possibilities and decide that we do have the skills to master our own particular demons - whether that be a 5-foot drop or Whilster backcountry mega-booter - there's a good chance that we'll commit ourselves to trying. and when we put our bodies on the line, there is nothing - nothing - that approaches that level of commitment. for a split second, when you're standing at the top of the run-in and staring at the kicker like it's a snorting bull that's staring back at you, and your inner voice is pleading on its knees for you to listen to it and go back to lodge and have a nice cup of coacoa - THAT's when you find out what you're really made of. So you stand firm, shush the inner voice, trust in your ability to do this thing...and then go. that's the moment that you're looking for. That's why we snowboard. That's the part of the sport that you can't buy. We go snowbaording because we're looking for that moment of courage. We know it's there, we want to believe we're courageous, and we want to test our own mettle.

It has been said that fear is the dark room where negatives are developed. By exposing ourselves to some danger, we see our true character reveal itself. Sometimes we chicken out, and sometimes we drop in. Whichever it is, by exploring our curiosity - by pushing our abilities and jumping gaps, launching over snowmounds or sliding down bits of metal - we're following in fine tradition. We could well be keeping the flame alive. After all, as old Einstien wrote in the notes to his autobiography: "It is nothing short of a miracle that the modern world has not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry."

He'd have loved snowboarding. I'm sure of it.

Hopefully all of our friends state-side are getting ready for Thanksgiving this week! It seems like this year has been just FLYING by! All of us at First And Lexington are psyched for 2010 and the new designs we have planned and we hope you are just as excited as we are.

Normally Grant writes the blog for First And Lexington but with the new year right around the corner I made an early new year's resolution to be a little more “hands on” with it. I will (attempt to) write a blog every monday. Each week I want to pass on my top 10 playlist for the week for all those people out there who, like me, love to listen to music while doing pretty much anything. If you have any suggestions for me, just shoot me an e-mail at abrink@firstandlexington.com. I'd love to hear from you! I'll also talk about pretty much anything that I find hilarious, lame, exciting, etc for the week. So without further adieu, my top 10 playlist for the upcoming week (in no particular order).

Some of these bands/artists you may have heard of before, others you may have not. Those of you who have been with us from the beginning know how far we have come in a short period of time. With that, we are very proud to roll out the new First and Lexington website. Easier to use, nice on the eyes, and ready for the next line from F+L, we are truly proud of our new piece of digital real estate.

Fun fact, our new site is hosted on the greenest servers available. We know we have an environmental responsibility so we chose a new web hosting service that works with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to buy wind energy credits to offset energy consumption from web hosting and to put more energy back into the grid which was produced by wind power technology. Also, today, November 11th, 2009, First and Lexington will be visiting the University of New Hampshire campus for Get Outta Bed and Shred 2009. First and Lexington will be rubbing elbows with the likes of Volcom and SkullCandy as well as reps for local mountains, all of whom will be there to hype up the 09/10 season.

F+L pro riders Mike Baker and Ryan Rosinski will be at our booth with the our Wii & Wii Fit, Shaun White Snowboarding, Free CD's, and t-shirts for sale at special event prices. There will be give aways and more. Stop by the booth to meet the guys, grab some discount codes, or grab a shirt (there are in limited quantity for this event, so don't miss you chance for killer price savings.).

Be sure to stop by and Welcome to our NEW Neighborhood.

www.firstandlexington.com
